Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join the academy?

Anyone who is interested in participating in competitive debating is welcome, whether they are middle schoolers looking for public speaking experiences or adult learners eager to take their competitive and career achievement to the next level.

Yes, we have introductory courses designed for students with little to no prior debate experience. They will start from building confidence and fundamental speech skills, and work their way up.

Yes, adults are welcome. We stream students by their ability, experience, and goal, not by their age. Since not everyone of the same age progresses at the same rate, this approach ensures the class environment is conducive for each student’s learning.

Students will go through an online interview with a GMA coach to determine the tier they should be placed in. The interview also doubles as a trial lesson for the prospective students to see if the coaching style works for them.

What programs do you offer?

We offer four types of debate programs:

  1. Regular semester courses – for students seeking consistent development, progressing through four tiers of class (Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced, and Select) based on performance.
  2. Short-term tournament prep labs – for teams preparing for competitions with prepared motions.
  3. Pre-semester bridge lessons – for students eager to get ahead before the start of a semester.
  4. Summer and winter camps – for large groups of students to gain intensive training during long school breaks, designed to be accessible for beginners for the most part.

We offer both online and in-person classes, subject to specific demands and coaches’ available time each semester.

Students should have a dedicated notebook for debating so they can keep track of the lessons over time, separate from the debate notes used for practice rounds. We also advise using pens not pencils to avoid wasting time on correction while taking notes.

Electronic devices are generally not allowed during class except for timekeeping, unless specifically instructed otherwise.

Yes. Participating in tournaments is an integral part of internalizing lessons and improving consistently. Students who have failed to complete their competition quota for the semester may be refused to continue next semester.

For students enrolled in regular semester programs, they can sign up for additional training free of charge. These sessions are hosted based on GMA coaches’ availability and the number of student demand.

Current GMA students may also bring their outside teammates to join the mixed training. They can enjoy up to 2 times of training for free per semester, after which they have to pay a small fee of NT$ 500 each session.

When students need to take leaves, how does the makeup system work?

As long as students notify their GMA coach at least 24 hours in advance, they are eligible to take a makeup session. Exceptions such as sick leaves can be allowed on a case-by-case basis.

The makeup session may take one of the three following forms, subject to individual arrangement between students and their coach:

  1. Join another class of similar level.
  2. Join online mixed training sessions that take place during weekday or weekend evenings.
  3. Arrange one-on-one sessions with a GMA coach.
  1. Regular semester course (12 sessions; 2 hours per sessions): NT$ 35,000/ person (group discount: NT$ 33,500/ person)
  2. Tournament prep lab: NT$ 19,500/ person (6 sessions; 2 hours per session)
  3. Pre-semester bridge lessons: NT$ 12,000/ person (4 sessions; 2 hours per session)

Yes, all purchases on the GMA website will automatically generate digital invoices sent to the email address registered under the purchasing account.
